Gua sha is an ancient skincare practice rooted in Traditional Chinese techniques, using a smooth stone tool to gently massage the face and body. Different types of stones are believed to offer unique benefits, both for the skin and overall well-being.
White Quartz is associated with clarity and balance. When used as a gua sha stone, it provides a cooling sensation that can help reduce puffiness and calm the skin. It’s a great choice for refreshing the complexion and supporting a more even, radiant appearance.
Rose Quartz is known as the “stone of love,” linked to soothing and nurturing energy. In skincare, rose quartz is valued for its gentle touch, making it ideal for sensitive skin. Regular use may help promote circulation, ease tension in facial muscles, and support a soft, glowing look.
Obsidian is a volcanic, dark stone associated with protection and detoxification. As a gua sha tool, obsidian is slightly warmer to the touch compared to quartz stones. It helps release tension, sculpt the face, and support lymphatic drainage, giving the skin a more defined and refreshed appearance.
Blue Sodalite is celebrated for its calming and clarifying properties. This stone is believed to help reduce inflammation and promote mental clarity. When used in gua sha, it can support the skin’s natural radiance, soothe irritation, and provide a grounding, relaxing effect during your self-care routine.
Each of these stones can be used with the same gua sha technique—gliding the tool across the skin in upward and outward motions—but choosing a specific stone adds a personal and energetic element to your routine. Whether you prefer the cooling feel of white quartz, the gentle care of rose quartz, the grounding power of obsidian, or the calming clarity of blue sodalite, gua sha can be a relaxing and beneficial addition to daily skincare.

How to use a gua sha stone
1. Cleanse your stone and face first – wash the gua sha with mild soap and water, then pat it dry. Cleanse your face to remove impurities.
2. Apply facial oil or serum – a few drops allow the stone to glide smoothly, preventing tugging or irritation while nourishing your skin.
3. Hold the stone correctly, grip it at a slight angle, with the curved edge against your skin (around fifteen to thirty degrees), never flat.
4. Glide from the center outward, for cheeks, sweep from the nose toward the ear; for the jawline, from chin to earlobe; for the forehead, from eyebrows to hairline.
5. Use gentle pressure, let the stone’s weight do the work; firm yet smooth strokes stimulate circulation without stressing the skin.
6. Focus on tension areas, under the eyes, along the jaw, or at the temples, gently roll or press to release tightness and support lymphatic drainage.
7. Repeat each stroke five to ten times, always upward and outward for the best lifting effect.
8.Finish your ritual – gently pat in any remaining oil or serum, and take a moment to enjoy the calm and glow.
Tips: Store your gua sha in the fridge for a refreshing cooling effect, and clean it after each use. with consistent practice, it promotes circulation, reduces puffiness, and turns your daily skincare into a mindful, indulgent ritual.
