Reise builds its formulas on Taiwanese organic rice bran: a deep cleansing shampoo for oily hair and build-up, a colour-preserving conditioner and a rice oil leave-in for dry ends. AZUR's One & Only Shampoo Bar is handmade with oils, turmeric and rosemary and works best on short hair. CRA-YON's Sand Service duo leaves hair with a subtle woody, powdery scent, and Re.feel Naturals' body oils also go on the ends of the hair.Then the accessories. Pique et Pince handcrafts its barrettes, hairpins and combs in France from cellulose acetate, from the slim Carmen barrette to the curved Victoria clip. This is the category our Berlin store is best known for, and the one we would rather you smell than read about.Niche perfume comes from small, independent houses that follow their own signature rather than majority taste. ORACULUM builds dense, unapologetic scents around single ideas, from Katarzist and Santalist to Helenist, Arabesque and Krucifist; Mio Dio is an extrait de parfum with a concentration of 30 to 40 percent. CRA-YON, founded by a French-Swedish duo, makes modern eaux de parfum like Ami Amie, Continental and Young Air. Rhizome's eaux de parfum are made in Italy, and all of them are unisex.Equality Fragrances was founded in Berlin in 2019, makes its perfumes in Germany and devotes each scent to a human quality, from Dear Empathy and Silent Vow to Lucid Light. Oak Berlin's Ursprung was created with the perfumer Geza Schön. Gabar tells of Myanmar and New York, from Swim and Ground to Rise. London-based To My Ships has its perfumes made in France, Gracious Minds from Melbourne makes its own by hand in Australia, and France's Maison Abysse composes its scents with perfumers in Grasse.Whether you are looking for niche perfume for women or for men, the fragrance families are the better guide: floral, woody, citrus, amber, or green and herbal. Most bottles come in 50 ml, several in 10 ml travel sizes, and the discovery sets are the easiest way to try a house before buying a full bottle. Organic matcha and tea, books, a notebook and a mulberry silk sleep mask: wellbeing at Affairs Of Chemistry is the quiet corner of the store. Nothing here promises to fix you; it's chosen to make a slow moment nicer.Tea starts with Matchasome's organic ceremonial matcha from Chiran, the single-serve sticks for travel, and the hojicha and genmaicha powders for people who find matcha too green, plus strawberry and banana matcha, rounded with date powder, for a fruitier cup. Matcha Passion's handcrafted chawan and bamboo chashaku are for preparing it; whisk it, or shake the single-serve sticks in a bottle. Asmi Ayurveda's Relax Tea Box is the herbal cup for the sofa.On paper, Cozy Publishing's books on biophilic design and Finnish summer cottages sit next to its My Daily Notes notebook; its notebooks are the ones we use at the counter ourselves. Our own mulberry silk sleep mask blocks the light and glides over the skin, and it is the most-gifted product in the store. Take a bowl, a scoop and one 30 g pack of matcha to begin: the whisking every morning is the ritual.
