Lipstick Iconic Edition

Creamy, buildable lip colour in seven shades, held in a metal case designed to be refilled.

Before the colour comes the case: cool, smooth metal that slides open in the hand, shaped by the French designer Marc Atlan together with Kirsten Kjaer Weis and designed to be refilled, so that only the inner tube is ever replaced.

Inside is a creamy, buildable lipstick of castor seed oil, shea butter, olive oil and rosehip seed oil, held by carnauba, candelilla and beeswax. It asks for a moment of contact first: held briefly against the lips, it softens and then glides. One pass leaves a light veil of colour; further layers deepen it.

Adore is a deep, cool red with a berry note, Affection a coral pink, Confidence a bright, warm red, Effortless a warm nude that leans towards terracotta, Empower a bright pink, Fearless a deep cherry red and Serene a rosy nude.

Adore, Effortless and Serene are certified organic by CCPB (Certificate CB/09); Affection, Confidence, Empower and Fearless contain a small amount of synthetic colourant and are not certified.

The inner tube slides out of the Iconic Edition case and a refill takes its place. Kjaer Weis Lip Gloss on top adds shine; Adore pairs with Lovely Cream Blush.

Hold the lipstick against the lips for a moment before drawing it across them; the warmth of the skin softens the formula. One pass gives a sheer wash of colour, further passes a fuller one. Blot with a tissue if you prefer less.

A little dabbed onto the cheeks and blended with the fingertips also works as a cream blush.

Kjaer Weis was launched in May 2010 by makeup artist Kirsten Kjaer Weis. Its look draws on Danish minimalism, and from the start she gave the case as much thought as the colour inside it: creamy textures for cheeks, lips and eyes, held in an object worth keeping.

For that case, Kjaer Weis approached the French designer Marc Atlan, whose perfume bottle for Comme des Garçons had been an inspiration. Together they developed the Iconic Edition, a metal case designed to be refilled: when the makeup is used up, only the pan or inner tube is replaced. The design took around two years to refine and comes in a box of red textured paper.
